ABOUT
Previously named the Ritz Theatre, the Walter Kerr Theatre is a Broadway theater located at 219 West 48th Street in the Theater District, New York City. The theater was designed by Herbert J. Krapp and constructed for the Shubert Brothers in 1921. Renamed in 1990 after the theatrical critic Walter Kerr, it seats 975 people across three levels.
Cosmic Fischer was awarded this project in early 2023 by the current operators: Jujamcyn Theaters to upgrade the current CCTV system, and expand the number of cameras across the site.
Aesthetics played a big role, to be considered fundamental for the installation and placement of cameras inside the theater ceilings and walls, including conduit and wiring paths “invisibility” and care for the interior space.

PROJECT PERFORMANCE
Our technicians ran electrical conduit throughout the exterior + back of house, including the building stairwells, the roof areas, inside of the facades on 48th Street, into the networking office. (11) exterior cameras were installed. All interior wire paths were run through the ceiling plenums and common area hallways, where we installed an additional (23) cameras per the client scope. The network server appliance was installed in the security office, with all programming and setup completed.
CLIENT ADVANTAGE
By installing an IP-based network infrastructure, we eliminated the need for larger conduit & homerun of each cable. When completing work on the interior of the theater, we avoided cutting even a single hole into the ceilings, eliminating the need for patch work by building staff. The expansion of cameras throughout the venue added an extra layer of security both inside and outside the theatre premises.
