Fred F. French Building CCTV System
SCOPE
Core-drilling 38 floors and installing new structured cabling/network infrastructure inside EMT conduit. Installing (17) new cameras across all floors. Head end equipment installed in TelCo room, with all common-area wiring concealed.
TIMELINE
3 Weeks
BLURB
In 2019 Cosmic Fischer was hired to install a new CCTV surveillance system inside one of New York City’s most beautiful landmark buildings, 551 5th Avenue, also known as the Fred F. French Building. Owned and operated by the Feil Organization and their subsidiary, Jeffrey Management, 551 5th is 430,000 square foot, 38 floor office tower built in 1927, and houses one of the most intricate/ornate brass lobbies in all New York. Cosmic Fischer competed against and outbid the existing CCTV vendor at the building for this project.
PROJECT PERFORMANCE
Our technicians core-drilled all 38 floors (thick slabs!) in the building stairwell, and ran 1” EMT riser throughout the building. We installed a metal equipment cabinet every 4th floor, which housed a PoE network switch and power receptacle. Our IP system required only two Cat6 risers, one as main trunk and one as backup. We then snaked all cables in the ceilings throughout the common area hallways and installed (17) cameras per the client scope. The network video recorder was installed in the security office, with all programming and setup completed.
CLIENT ADVANTAGES
By installing an IP-based network infrastructure, we eliminated the need for larger conduit & homerun of each cable. Network switches installed every four floors instead of every floor lowered overall project cost, while allowing for future expansion. When completing work on interior hallways, we avoided cutting even a single hole into the ceilings, eliminating the need for patch work by building staff.
